Physical Education and Health Report to the Board of Trustees

In June 2018, I worked alongside Carla Laughton (Head of PE/Health) to collate data, review last year's goals and make some recommendations for this year.

We then presented this to the Board of Trustees (BOT), where we answered questions and had a discussion about Physical Education and Health at Lawrence Area School this year.

This was a great opportunity to take on more responsibility in the school and also wonderful to able to attend a BOT meeting and strengthen professional relationships within the school.

ALL Network Meeting - 5th March

Today Pauline and I attended the first ALL meeting of the year. This was held in Dunedin and teachers from all over Otago who are teaching either ALL or ALiM in their schools this year were there. The day was a great chance to meet this year's facilitators and to get our heads back in ALL mode. Pauline and I worked out what students we would most likely be having in our groups this year. We also got some new ideas for communicating with whanau and the community which we might be able to implement in our groups this year. I found this was a very worthwhile day and I'm excited about teaching ALL again this year.

Teacher Only Days

This year we have had two teacher only days both with a focus on Local Curriculum. The first day was 11/5/21. We planned 2 inquiry units - the first was a Gold Rush, Lawrence History plan and the second was a Matariki inquiry/art unit.   The second day was the 16/8/21. We had another focus on the local curriculum and how we can include this on our unit planning. We also spent time on whanaungatanga.

Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori - Maori Language Week

This week in class we have been trying to include more Te Reo Maori in our every day language in class. This is on top of the Te Reo sessions we already do each week. We used a new resource that was sent to school which was new books that were in Te Reo in the front and then English in the back. It was great to learn some new language and refresh our memories on some other terms we have used before. We also learned a Traditional Maori game called Tapu Ae. A new class favourite.
