Drama Night - Reach for the Sky

Image
Tonight we had our Drama Night production. It was a wonderful display of our students' skills, both acting and singing. The Junior School had many practices altogether and it was great to see the increase of performance throughout the different scenes.

BOT acceleration meeting

Today Pauline, Gillian and I informed the BOT about some of the processes we go through in the ALL programme. With ERO's impending visit it was timely to meet with new Board members as well as existing members to share how we choose, assess and track students in the programme. It was a great opportunity to discuss the ALL programme and answer any questions the Board have about acceleration at LAS. It was also a great chance to meet with the new members and build that relationship.

Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori - Maori Language Week

Image
This week in class we have been trying to include more Te Reo Maori in our every day language in class. This is on top of the Te Reo sessions we already do each week. We used a new resource that was sent to school which was new books that were in Te Reo in the front and then English in the back. It was great to learn some new language and refresh our memories on some other terms we have used before. We also learned a Traditional Maori game called Tapu Ae. A new class favourite.

Golf Tournament

Image
On Wednesday 11th September, I attended the Tony Tourell Memorial Golf Tournament with 40 of the year 5-8 students from LAS. This was a great tournament and a good opportunity for the students to try out a new sport and play in teams as well. I enjoyed walking around with two of the teams and helping them out with their golf action...not that I am an expert by any means!

Cohort group Hangout

On Tuesday I had a Google Hangout with my Year 5-6 cohort of teachers from Maniototo and Roxburgh. (The Twizel person/people didn't show). This was a great chance to have a catch up with how things are going for us and how we are going with our inquiries.

Otago Polyfest

On Tuesday 10th September I traveled through to Dunedin to watch and support the Lawrence Area School Kapa Haka perform at the Otago Polyfest. I was very thankful to see the group perform live and not just watch them on the computer. They were amazing and it was a very powerful performance. Eileena and her team have done an amazing job!!

Lantern Making

Image
Before the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival this year the school, once again, made lanterns in preparation for this event. Anne and her team of helpers came to school and helped the 3 different groups make the 3 different types of lanterns: dragon, star and the traditional lantern. As a teacher I just supervised and helped with gluing and ideas with a small group of students.
